The velvet has arrived….

…and it isn’t necessarily a good thing.

It’s my own fault, really.  I should have gotten a swatch.  It weighs about 1 lb., is practically see through and does NOT have a gray cast to it.  It is almost YELLOW.

If you need me I will be over here in the corner, rocking back and forth and keening.

Positive note:  The White Queen crown is ready and on its way to me.  WOOT!

Oh no! 😦 You can always flat it to muslin to cover the weight, but the color…. That’s more tragical!

Live and learn sweetie. I’ve done the same with the silk/linen fabric for my 1590s bodice. Way too thin, and far to slubby. Keep looking, and ask for swatches up front.

btw, this reminds me, if you need a specific fabric and are having a hard time finding it, ask the ladies (Diana is the owner, Bridget is her buyer – both are great costumers – you may have seen them at CoCo) at Renaissance Fabrics, http://www.renaissancefabrics.net/index.php. They are always on the lookout for beautiful fabrics at good prices, and are willing to hunt down special order fabrics for their customers.

If you are talking about Diana Habra, I got to be the muslin volunteer for her German class at CoCo and she let me keep the muslin! I will send them an e-mail and see what they can find. I tried Wimpflheimer Velvets, but they have nothing the right color. Sadly most of the US velvet mills have gone out of business. I might have to wind up spending the cash and ordering from Mood or somewhere if I can’t find it. Ah well. At least Fabric. com has free returns!

        Yes, that’s her.

Good luck in the hunting. I know it can sometimes be a long road when you are looking for just the right fabric, and sometimes compromises have to be made.
